US Open 2009

Day 3 of the 2009 US Open Tennis begins with the second round in women's single matches.

As I stepped into the tennis stadium, the seats were only half full. The match began with Amelie Mauresmo and Aleksandra Wozniack. They warmed up the crowd with their professional moves. Both players were equally matched, but Aleksandra Wozniack won the game.

As Venus Williams came out , more and more people filled the stands. Venus williams and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were playing. Williams and Mattek-Sands experiences were not far apart. They played a very close sets, but Venus dominated over Bethanie. The two women were very close. Venus and Mattek-Sands' experiences are very close and not too far apart.

Then Rafael Nadal of Spain came out. He was playing in the first round Mens' single match. He was facing Richard Gasquet of France. He is a 24 year old tennis player that resides in Switzerland He is six foot one inch. This match is a righted player against a left handed player. When I saw Nadal serve, I knew he was left handed. Last year, Nadal defeated Federer in the Australian Open. Now he is the number tennis player in the world. Did you know that Nadal has never won the US Open? That is true. In the first round, it was evident that Nadal was the stronger player because I saw Nadal crush Gasquet.

The first round is always the easiest for the best players because they are playing against weak players, but when they get to the quarterfinals, the game gets difficult.

Game 13
For example, Nadal only beat Gonzalez by one game in the first and second set. He showed Gonzalez that he's the stronger player by beating him 6 games to nothing in the third set. The best players always play in the higher rounds.

Heros

The Terrorists thought that 9/11 would make the United States weak. Instead 9/11 brought the people of america closer togeather. It made us stronger and more consicious. At the 8th anniversary of 9/11, people joined togeather at the WTC site to read the names of the people who perished. Some of those people sacrificed their life to save thousands of others. A man from Morgan Stanley, helped evacuate his employees. After the people were all evacuated, he went up to search for more people. five minutes later, the tower collapsed. He was in the South Tower and the south tower collapsed first. He told his friend that he's going to do one more sweep of the floor. His friend and wife told him to get out of the tower. He refused to get out and insisted that he check the floor for more people. This act of selflessness is the mark of a true hero. He put the lives of others before himself.

This tragic event showed the world that in a life threatening situation, most people will help others. Heros do not need super powers to be heros. Ordinary heros are among ordinary people.
